I think that Capitol Lake should return to its original state of being a euastuary. It would help the Olympia area become more sustainable in the long run. If you changed it to an eaustuary the New Zealand mud snails would die because they can’t survive in fresh water. Also all the sediment gummed up in the lake would wash out into the much larger Puget Sound. The milfoil would also wash out.
It’s all about sustainability and with an eaustuary it is very sustainable. Some people say that an eaustuary would bring bad business but instead it would only help. It would improve fishing and you could do fun things like kayaking. Some say it affects the fair but it really doesn’t its more about the fair not the sedimental value.
If we were to keep the lake sustainable the city would have to pay millions of dollars. With an eaustuary you pay to remove the bridge and dam and than an eaustuary would virtually take care of its self. Also there would be plenty of wildlife which would enhance the beauty of the whole area.
In the end it’s all about sustainability and with a lake it’s obviously not doing that. So it’s time to go back to the roots of Olympia. We have been sitting around doing nothing. In the end the euastuary will pay back to the people of Olympia. But it will also pay back to the ecosystem and create a better environment for all of Olympia.
